Application [13 Aug 2009|06:06pm]
CHARACTER:

Name: Dr Anouk Manon Landry, MD FRCPsych

Age: 40

D.O.B.: January 4th 1969

Blood Type: O pos

Race: Earth Elemental

Level: 2

Powers: Anouk hasn’t actually realised that her green thumb is supernatural in origin – all of the women in her family are good with plants. She learnt gardening from her mother, and her grandmother – the fact that her garden is always healthy and fruitful is just good luck, right?

Physical Description: Simone is 5’8” and slender. She has a peaches and cream skin tone that compliments her naturally blonde hair, and rarely tans. She would if she let her skin see the sun, but as she burns first and has a fear of skin cancer, that never happens. Her eyes are slate grey and steady, seeming to see deeper than she lets on. There are two faint vertical worry lines that seem to permanently hover between her eyebrows, except when she lights up with a smile, when deep smile lines crinkle the corners of her eyes.

Personality: Anouk is the slow, patient, steady type, although she does have a temper. It’s just very deeply buried – but when she loses her temper, it’s as wise to make sure you’re a long way from the site of the explosion. She cares very deeply about people – when someone is hurting, she hurts too, and if there’s anything she can do to help, she will.

Sexuality: Bi-curious – she’s never had a relationship with a woman, but that doesn’t mean she's ruled it out entirely.

History: Anouk was born in France, and moved to the UK with her parents when she was fifteen years old. She still retains a trace of her Parisian accent and French phrasing, under the slightly upper class accent she picked up in the English boarding school where she completed her secondary education. She has a medical degree from King’s College Hospital in London, and after several years post-graduate training, which included earning a certificate in Psychopharmacology, became a Member and then Fellow of the Royal College of Pscychiatrists. In other words, she’s a highly qualified prescribing psychiatrist.

She’s quite well-known in the UK as an expert in abnormal child psychology, and was missed by her students and peers when she left the country. She moved to the United States with her then-partner four years ago, as he was a literature professor who had found a job lecturing at the University of Michigan. Anouk found work with the University hospital, based in the Rachel Upjohn building and specialising in children with psychiatric issues. They split up two years ago, and Anouk moved to Scarlet Oaks and set up a private consultancy, although she still has strong links back to the University.

Since the Light of May: Anouk has always known that there was something more to the world than met the eye – she’d come across people with problems that couldn’t be explained by conventional methodology on more than one occasion, and her own talents sometimes had no rational explanation. It’s been a relief to her to know that she wasn’t just imagining things, that there really are people out there who are more than human. She’s fascinated by all of these new races – and she would love to be one of the first psychiatrists to get a real, in-depth look into the psyche of some-one who isn’t human.

Special Skills/Abilities: As an earth elemental, Anouk has an affinity with plants – she hasn’t realized it’s not normal’. She keeps her garden beautifully tended, and there’s never a dying plant to be found there. In terms of non-magical skills, Anouk is a highly intuitive psychiatrist, deeply devoted to helping her patients. She’s also a moderately gifted artist, although she rarely has time to paint, and has a pleasant alto singing voice that tends to be exercised when she’s in her garden pottering amongst the vegetables.

Personal Weaknesses:
Asthma - Anouk’s biggest weakness and the one which impacts her life the most is her severe asthma. It has threatened her life on several occasions – to the point where she keeps oxygen in her home, and is never without a means of contacting an ambulance. She wears a medicalert bracelet at all times.
Stubbornness - Anouk is always right. At least, she thinks she is, and it’s pretty hard to convince her that she’s not. That said, if anyone does ever manage to change her mind, she will have a profound and long-lasting respect for them.
Loneliness - She finds it hard to make new friends, especially now that she’s living in a foreign country, away from her family, and no longer speaking to the person who brought her there. It doesn’t help that most of the new people she meets are clients, and therefore she should avoid non-professional contact with them.
Elitism - Anouk is smart and knows it – and she is terribly intolerant of anyone she perceives as dumb, or, even worse, who isn’t living up to their potential.

Personal Strengths:
Loyalty - Once you’ve earned Anouk’s trust and devotion, you’ve earned it forever – unless you something pretty heinous. She’ll do pretty much anything for the people she loves.
Tolerance - People should be allowed to do and be what they want – as long as they’re not wasting themselves, who’s to judge?
Bravery - There’s not much that can scare Anouk – and even when she is petrified, she can still keep a cool head and do what needs to be done.

Family: Anouk has no family in the States and since breaking up with her partner, has very few close friends. Her parents are Simone and Bertrand Landry, and she has an older brother, Philippe, who lives in France and works as a yachting engineer.

Living Conditions: Anouk lives alone, in a two-bedroom bungalow on Appleblossom Road. The house has a large garden, bursting with life, that backs onto the woods – it’s hard to see where the garden ends and the woods start, as there’s no fencing at the back of the property. The bungalow itself, whilst only having two bedrooms, is large and sprawling, with big rooms, high ceilings, and plenty of room for entertaining. Anouk works from her home, and the large office has been made over into a consulting room, complete with soft comfortable leather chairs, cheerful artwork (some of which is Anouk’s and signed, which might be spotted by the eagle-eyed), and a view over the garden through the picture windows.

Career/Job: Free-lance prescribing psychiatrist, with strong links to the psychiatric department of the University of Michigan hospital.

Preferred PB: Diane Gaidry.
